PWOR Foundation Objectives
The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment (PWOR) Foundation objects, as they pertain to the Regiment after which the Foundation is named, are:
- Public education,
- Heritage preservation
- Public welfare.
Hence the Foundation supports
- Commemorative events
- Research and publication about the history of the unit and of Kingston,
- The regimental museum and library,
- The historic edifice known as the Kingston Armouries,
- The advancement of public knowledge of the unit and of the Canadian Forces and of Canada’s military history, with special emphasis on Kingston.
It also looks to the welfare of present and past members of the regiment and of the broader regimental family in the event of hardship or calamity, and supports other charitable activities within the broader community when the regiment undertakes a project in support of those activities.
The exact detailed objects of the Foundation, as approved by CRA are as follows:
1. Education: To educate the public, the members of the Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment, and the regimental family by:
(a) advancing public awareness of the history and current roles of the regiment, its related or predecessor organizations and units, and of the Canadian Armed Forces as a whole, through support for commemorative events and activities, for outreach through public events and displays, and for relevant research and publication, and
2. Library and Museum: To support the operation and improvement of the resource library and museum of The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment, including the acquisition, restoration and preservation of artefacts, documents, and symbols relevant to the regiment and to related units, and making them accessible to the public.
3. Preservation of Historic Site: To assist in the continuing restoration, development and preservation of the historical site located at Kingston Ontario occupied by The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment and being known as the Kingston Armouries.
4. Assistance, Advice, Counselling, Mentoring: To promote and safeguard the welfare of the community by:
(a) providing emergency assistance to members and former members of the regiment and their families in the event of hardship or calamity,
(b) providing appropriate advice, counselling and mentoring to members or former members of the regiment and their families when circumstances precipitate the need, and
(c) supporting other charitable activities within the broader community when the regiment undertakes a project in support of those activities.
